Today, Dietrich Bonhoeffer does an excellent job bridging this truth and the expectations of what it costs to die to self, pick up your cross, and follow Jesus. Bonhoeffer teaches us the difference between costly grace and cheap grace. Additionally, Bonhoeffer is able to provide answers to those questions about the Beatitudes derived from the Sermon on the Mount. He dissects the scripture beautifully and causes the reader to look in the mirror to examine the true nature of their spirit.
